Welcome to the Branner Room

Branner Room, The Lodge at Old City Hall is located in a 1904 historic building in downtown Jefferson City Tennessee. The room consists of a Queen Bed, numerous amenities and is decorated with early 1900s furniture. It is adjacent to Carson Newman University, 2 miles from Cherokee Lake, historic Glenmore Mansion, Mossback Distillery and several local eateries. The building served as the Jefferson City City Hall from 1929- 1989 and as a public school from 1904-1929. Currently, our beautifully restored building houses the Heritage & Visitor Center at Mossy Creek, Kneads Doughnuts, Patriot Wood Fired Pizza, and 3 upscale lodging rooms.

Fun Facts about the Branner Room

An important figure in Mossy Creek was John Roper Branner, President of the Georgia TN/VA railroad. He was a prominent landowner of much of Mossy Creek.

In 1868, Branner donated the land Old City Hall sits on to house the Order of the Masons Lodge 353 and for educational purposes.

This room was first a classroom built in 1904 and when this room became part of City Hall in 1930, the police Chief’s office looked out the right window with the American flag as a part of his view.

One local citizen remembers, as a little girl, standing across the street on the sidewalk and waving at her Daddy whose desk was at the window.

The shutters in the windows are from the outside of the 1868 building and we repurposed them for the Branner room. The windows are original to the building and have been restored.

To the left window stood a coal stove which has long been gone.

We are also told, along with the Police Chief, this is where the ‘secretary pool’, that kept the city moving along, was located.

Enjoy the Branner room which takes you back to the early 1900’s and the charm of days gone by.

We have added some modern amenities to make your stay more comfortable.
