Heritage Center at Mossy Creek

Imagine a world two-hundred thirty years ago; the discussions of townspeople; the sweat on the farmer’s brow; the labor of love erecting a building for a community; the children; the families. Now imagine being able to learn about those families that came before us and how they lived in our local communities.

Within the walls of Historic Old City Hall, the Heritage Center at Mossy Creek will tell the rich, beautiful tale of the Mossy Creek settlement in 1788. Relive the wonder of our forefathers’ Appalachian living; and learn about our surrounding communities and their roots.

Our ambition is to provide the citizens of Jefferson County a place to preserve, honor and share the history of this magnificent community; not merely Jefferson City, but Talbott, New Market, Piedmont, Strawberry Plains, White Pine and Dandridge.

Working with local citizens, local government, county archives and Carson Newman University; we will not only share our history with our local citizens, but provide a destination for others visiting the area. We will provide an experience for families in search of historical and interesting facts about our community.
